Meet Dr. Hargrave

Dr. Sylvia Hargrave, MD, FACS

Sylvia Hargrave, MD, FACS is the Director and Chief Surgeon of the Hargrave Eye Center. During her ten years at UTSW teaching advanced cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and anterior segment reconstruction, Dr. Hargrave trained over 150 ophthalmologists from all over the world.

In 2003, Dr. Hargrave was recruited by Methodist Medical Center and currently serves as the Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of the Hargrave Eye Center. She is known for her excellent surgical results, her compassion, and willingness to listen to and spend time with her patients.

Dr Hargrave graduated from Vassar College (cum laude) and Boston University School of Medicine. She then completed her internship and residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Hargrave is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications and presented her work at several national and international ophthalmic meetings.

On a personal note, Dr. Hargrave is happily married to Magnus Wetterstrand and enjoys exercise, travel, and learning new languages.
